Brachycephalic influence can occasionally require assistance or C-section.
Broad heads, moderate risk
Boxers have some of the flat-faced build seen in brachycephalic breeds, and large puppy heads can occasionally need assistance or a C-section. Ask your vet to check head size against her pelvis on the day-50 X-ray.
Heat and breathing
A shortened muzzle means she overheats and tires easily late in pregnancy. Keep her cool, limit exercise in warm weather and call your vet if her breathing becomes noisy or labored.
Heart health
Boxers are screened for heart conditions before breeding. If she has a known heart condition, tell your vet so they can plan monitoring and the safest delivery.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How long is a Boxer pregnant?
Boxers are pregnant for about 63 days from ovulation, and most whelp in 63 to 64 days. Counted from a mating date, the normal range is 56 to 70 days, because conception can happen days after mating. Use the calculator on this page to get a date range.
How many puppies can a Boxer have?
A typical Boxer litter is about 6 puppies, with a range of 4 to 9. First litters and litters from older dogs are often smaller. An abdominal X-ray after day 50 gives the actual count.
Does a Boxer need a C-section?
The risk of a C-section is moderate for Boxers. An X-ray around day 50 helps your vet decide between natural whelping and planned surgery.
What are the signs a Boxer is pregnant?
Around three to four weeks you may notice a smaller appetite, pinker and larger nipples and a clear mucus discharge. Her belly grows from about week six. Confirm with an ultrasound at about day 25 to 30.
When should a pregnant Boxer have an X-ray?
Between about day 50 and day 55. By then the puppies’ skeletons show, so your vet can count them and compare head size with her pelvis.
